Windows 7 Pre-Orders Outdo “The Boy Wizard”: Amazon

That has to be encouraging for Microsoft, as Windows Vista, as most know, definitely underperformed, sales-wise. Some have called Windows 7 a service pack for Windows Vista, but Microsoft has placed a lot of its hopes on the new OS, which officially launches Oct. 22nd. Brian McBride, Amazon’s managing director said: “The launch of Windows 7 has exceeded everyone’s expectations, storming ahead of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as the biggest grossing pre-order product of all time at Amazon.co.uk. Demand is still going strong. Over the past three months, only Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol has sold more copies than Windows 7, which is an incredible achievement for a software product.” Additionally, Amazon.com added that the software sold more copies the first eight hours of preorder than Windows Vista did in its entire pre-order period. However, what wasn’t mentioned was that there was a “sale” of sorts put on when Microsoft first allowed pre-ordered, cutting the prices for upgrades to Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional by 50%, surely fueling excitement. |
