For me, a nagging little worry about the new iPhone (now known to be the iPhone 3GS) was: am I going to have to get a new case? Yes, it’s a small worry, but after finally finding what I consider to be the perfect case, I didn’t want to have to wait months for case developers to create a new one for a new form factor.

For those wondering what I consider to be the perfect iPhone 3G case, it’s the ivySkin, mostly because not only is it durable on the outside, it’s touchable through a glass front panel that fully protects the iPhone screen.

Since the form factor on the iPhone 3GS has (surprisingly) not changed, and since they didn’t add the rumored front-facing camera for Video iChat (not surprisingly), older cases will work just fine. I’m sure case manufacturers are torn: this means no upgrade cases for current users who might want to switch to a 3GS, but it also means no time (or money) spent developing a new case.

Now, the only thing I could think Apple could change to really screw with us would the charging circuitry so that older cables won’t work any longer, but that ain’t gonna happen (is it?). Therefore, everything, including your finger (unless perhaps its the one some customers have extended toward Apple and AT&T for 3GS pricing for existing iPhone 3G customers) will work just fine.

And to be honest, I’ve checked with someone at Apple (except about the finger portion above), and yes, absolutely no changes in the form factor, so …
